Ok some more ideas for attacks that are a little less obvious and can have some nasty tactical applications:
False Pheromone... the player can spread a false pheromone in the target nest which results in the target nest's ants becoming confused and begin attacking each other. The greater the expense of attacker's pheromone, the greater the result in the target nest.
Targeted foraging... the player can choose to send workers to a specific area of the map to forage, which is much less efficient than standard foraging, but strips the resources from the target area instead. This can be used to either clean up a random corpse dropped by a random event (so a temporarily bonus resource tile) or to deprive a specific nest of resources in an insidious way... a form of attack that might be preferable to a player that has a slim military prowess but wants to harm the economy of a target nest. Particularly useful for smaller members of a large warring alliance... might not be able to attack the enemy, but can ravage their lands and create economic stress in that way.
Infiltrate... the player can send a small band of ants into a target nest to gather intel on the nest... information that comes back will be directly proportional to the player's skill in espionage versus the target's skill in espionage, and will yield results in the form of information that might include anything from none to all of the following: nest size, tech levels, soldier ant count, worker ant count, resource stores count, target's allies, etc.
Demolish... the player sends an army that will focus on destruction of the target nest as a priority. Casualties are inevitable on both sides as the player's army and the target's army battle, but the player's army will put much more effort into tearing apart the target nest than killing the enemy. The result is damage to the target but much higher casualties in the attacker's army than normal. Useful for evicting (bit by bit) a neighbour, or making permanent infrastructural damage to an enemy nest.
Pirate... player kills and takes the resources of a percentage of the target nest's convoys for the day.
