Actually maybe better graphics.

Maybe do custom chat rooms. I know in Antzzz we have the ability to PM multiple people at once, but each person should be able to create a chat room (like GC) and have the people they want in it.

What about phpBB forum with subdomain like forum.your_doman.org
Where you will have one general forum section for general discusions top fights ... and every alliance will be able to have an forum section for themselves, part of that can be opened and some subforums for closed chambers (open forum can be called Field, closed Anthill and Nest depends on how secret they are)
It's really no big deal to make forums and to menage it. I've done it on RK, they have a lot of players and huge forums.
GC is great thing but if there is too many players on it, you can read all they say, too soon is all gone. With forum you can

Ow custom chat rooms is a brilliant idea... so that alliances can have their own rooms, and even private general rooms, etc.
Basically like broadcast messages, except between specific folks that log in and log out of that room while it's active. That should be simple to produce but might get processor hungry. Ongoing server running costs should be considered in this, since it is important to keep running costs low and therefore subscription costs low (as in, not necessary).

you know what would be great added to it? Public and private/hidden chat rooms. Like instead of just one general chat, there could be several and you choose to which one to be in. there could be different chat rooms for different purposes such as newbies, experienced, random chat, wars, ect.
